Hello Curious Quilters!
I’m Kay M. Capps Cross. It’s an awfully big name, but I panicked on the eve of my wedding & had to keep it all. I had the Capps part for so long that it felt like I would be losing a limb if I gave it up.

I started sewing very young. My school shopping was a trip to the fabric store for yard goods and patterns! My mother and grandmother made those wonderfully heavy “quilts” from scraps and big wool comforters that were recycled. That was my first introduction to quilting.
I wandered into a quilt shop somewhere in the late 1990’s looking for interfacing for some dresses I was making for my daughters (the boys go vests soon after). I haven’t been seen since!

I started taking classes, and fairly soon I wound up teaching classes. Soon I was teaching my own designs. My foray into black and white was instrumental in developing my style and improving my life…..

I was challenged into making quilts from inside of me. I kept reaching for the black and white fabrics – and my creativity was set free.

I consider myself the luckiest person walking the face of the earth. I get to play, teach and help others tap into their own creativity. What a blessing!

I have taught in a quilt shop in southeast Minnesota, at the Northeast Iowa Quilter’s Guild retreat, and have presented trunk shows and taught at retreats and guilds around the area. I have been marketing my patterns internationally since Quilt Market in Portland in 2003. I made that decision by playing Spider Solitaire on the family computer. If I win I go and if I don’t I stay home and forget about this crazy idea of a pattern company. What a lucky game!
